Men are failing to find the right contents for their gift bags.
With Christmas round the corner many men will be concerned about finding the right contents to fill their partners’ gift bags. This is largely because, according to a recent poll, they are consistently getting the wrong presents for their other halves. More than half of the women polled by Gift Card and Voucher Week admitted to being disappointed in the gifts their partners had got for them, with one in six couples having a full blown row afterwards. The reasons for getting present buying wrong was blamed on men getting embarrassed in women’s shops and hating the process of shopping. Despite getting it wrong eight in ten women did concede that their partner genuinely tries to find something nice, even if this does not always go to plan. Top gifts women hated receiving included inappropriate or ill-fitting underwear, unwanted toiletries, kitchen utensils, cheap jewellery, poor-tasting chocolates, vacuum cleaners or exercise clothing. Whereas, men revealed that they hated receiving clothes, cheap gadgets, man bags, shoes, jewellery, soft toys, the wrong aftershave, shared tickets or framed photos from their partner. Commenting on the research, John Starr for Gift Card and Voucher Week, said; “Buying presents for women is clearly a minefield, and men have little chance of getting it right. “Even the most thoughtful of presents can be received with caution by women, who seem to assume that with every gift comes a hint.” Ways to reduce the likelihood of hating a gift include writing a list beforehand or picking a present out and telling your other half, to avoid disappointment and potential embarrassment when they open it.
