A community baby shower in Texas, US recently saw a huge number of gift bag donations.

As part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance at the Fort Bliss Army Volunteer Corps centre, they got together with a group which provides free clothing, furniture and household items to soldiers in need of assistance.

While fundraising is not unusual for the volunteers, DVIDs Hub reports, having a baby-themed event made it extra special.

Tephanie Hopper, Fort Bliss Army Volunteer Corps manager, told the site: "This community baby shower project supports the junior enlisted family centre by providing baby items for those who might need them."

"We’ve never done anything like this before. It's just one form of giving back and the Army Volunteer Corps is all about giving back. It warms my heart to see us doing something that directly affects a person or organisation," she added.

Throughout the day paper bags of items such as nappies, baby wipes, food, creams, formula, bottles, dummies, bibs, clothes and blankets were donated.

Visitors and participants were then given the chance to play a few fun baby shower games, all with an infant theme such as pinning dummies onto posters of babies while blindfolded.

It wasn't just individuals and families who turned out to donate baby items as multiple gift bags were given by students with the Technology Education Attendance Management Students Committee from Western Technical College in El Paso, Texas, after they ran their own drive.
